Invacuation drill.

Posted on by Mr Beech

As you will be aware, school have many procedures in place to try to maintain the safety of all of our children, staff and visitors in the event of an emergency. The children are very aware of the need for us to have fire evacuation routines and we regularly practise procedures for this throughout the year. It has now been advised that schools ensure that they also have an invacuation policy. This policy will put into place the procedures required to address a possible health and safety risk when the children are outside on the play areas in order to bring them all back into the building in a timely manner.  Incidents we have encountered in the past include an unknown dog being loose on the playground or smoke/sparks coming onto the playground from neighbours’ garden bonfires. In both instances we needed to get the children back into the school building quickly and calmly. The possibly reasons for an invacuation (as described above) have been explained to the children today in assembly. We have made it very clear that the procedures will be very similar to the fire evacuation procedures and that there will not be any need to panic or worry.

We plan to have an invacuation practice on Thursday and so your child may speak about it at home. The procedures we have in place will require them to come in from the playground through the nearest open door and to congregate in their class lines in the school hall, where their teacher will take the register. The children will be kept in the hall until the health and safety issue has been addressed and it is decided that it is safe for them to return to their classrooms. We would very much appreciate it if parents could reiterate the message that this is nothing to worry about and that the routines are very similar to the fire evacuation routines.

Thank you for your support.
