Headteacher’s Blog 23/1/15

It was another busy week in school last week and we got a lot done – despite the snowy weather!

Mr Brown did a brilliant job in ensuring that the paths around school were well gritted in time for the start of the school day. Our winter plan states that he must prioritise pathways before school starts which is why the playgrounds weren’t gritted in time for the start of the day – the playgrounds are gritted before first break at 10.30. I hope that clarifies the matter.

I did lots of work on updating school policies last week; almost all of our curriculum policies have now been updated in line with the requirements of the new National Curriculum for England 2014 and are available on the website. I just have a couple more to work on which should get finished this week.

We also had a visit from our School Improvement Advisor, Tim Richards. He was in school last Wednesday to look at school standards with myself and Mrs Hodgson. These meetings hold school to account for the children’s outcomes and needless to say, we spend a lot of time preparing for them to ensure we can answer all of the probing questions! Tim was very satisfied with our results and noted that our outcomes in all areas were not only above those nationally,  locally and in similar schools but above those seen in other outstanding schools which is pleasing for us and reassuring for parents.

Parents were invited into school for an information evening last Thursday to discuss our Robinwood residential for Year 3 – it’s coming up fast. Please get in touch with Mr Beech if you need more information or weren’t able to attend.

Governors were in school last Friday to carry out pupil interviews. They spoke to children from all year groups about the curriculum, our growth mindsets focus this year and our provision for PE. Governors will discuss the outcomes from these interviews at our next full Governing Body meeting on the 3rd February.

More snow forecast for this week …. check the website for twitter updates in the case of poor weather.
