Puffins Learn About Black History Month

This week, we have been celebrating Black History Month. We discussed what this means and why it is important. We then watched a Bigfoot Education film called All Aboard the Windrush. This was based on real life stories of people that travelled on Empire Windrush from Kingston, Jamaica to Tilsbury, Essex. We loved learning all about Grace and Clinton. Before the film started, we discussed who the Windrush Generation were and how they helped to rebuild Britain. The children were fascinated to find out information about this and were able to participate in some real thoughtful discussions. I know that all of the children were so excited to go home and tell you what they had learnt. So, please ask them what they remembered about today’s film and continue the dialogue around the importance of accepting and, most importantly, learning and celebrating other cultures.
