Year 6’s Last Day | 19 Jul 2024

What a fantastic year we have had with this year’s cohort. They went out in style.

Today, year 5 visited Guiseley High to take part in a taster day themed around a journey to Mars. After being split into different groups with Mentson and Guiseley Primary, they took part in a range of sessions including Science, Textiles, Food Tech, Maths, Drama and Art.

    Today, Vision Education re-visited Tranmere to hold their Unsung Hero Awards Ceremony. Over the past few weeks, lots of children (and adults) have been spotted showing ‘hero behaviours’ both in school and within their wider community, and today, they received some certificates and awards in recognition of this. Today, School Council have been busy setting up some alternative provisions on both the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds. Between now and summer, when the weather is nice, the team will be providing a small chess and colouring area for the children to enjoy.

What does it mean to be British? Apparently, according to Kingfishers, drinking tea, eating fish and chips, roast dinners, Monarchy, football and discussing the weather. Pupils decided how they would like to present their ideas. Some chose art, writing poems/raps or drama.

On Friday, all of the children in Kingfishers made bruschetta. Using the bridge technique to chop the the tomatoes they mixed them together with chives, white wine vinegar, olive oil and salt and pepper. Once we had toasted the bread and rub it with garlic they served the tomatoes mixture on top.

To finish our topic on Light, UKS2 learnt how to create a periscope. This involved understanding the science behind reflected light and how this knowledge can be utilised.

After running for years 1, 2, 3 and 4, it’s now UKS2’s chance to start chess club. If you are currently in Puffins, Kingfishers or Doves and would like to come to chess club, it will run on a Monday playtime with Miss Ingram in the KS2 shared area.

Over the past few weeks, School Council have been encouraging all pupils to take part in Vision Education’s design an Easter Egg competition. A fun day has been had by all at Eden Camp. We were able to consolidate our learning of World War Two by visiting different huts focusing on different elements of the war including rationing, human torpedoes, Women at war and The Blitz. The children were a credit to the school and chat on the …
