Recognising, naming and sorting 2D Shapes

Posted on by wrightr

In Eagles, we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties. In the first lesson we learnt to recognise and name different 2D shapes. We used resources such as lollipop sticks and straws to create a range of 2D shapes and had to solve problems.

In the second lesson, we began to sort 2D shapes into groups. By looking at the properties of each shape, we could accurately sort the 2D shapes into two groups such as; squares and not squares. Some of the children came up with their own groups like quadrilaterals and not quadrilaterals. The children extended their learning by sorting shapes in different ways – by colour, size, number of sides etc.
