Year 2 Exit Point – Visit to Harlow Carr Gardens

This half term our topic has been ‘Our World.’ Throughout this topic, we have learnt about the seasons, weather and in art, we have looked at the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy.

Yesterday, Year 2 visited Harlow Carr Gardens to access a workshop entitled ‘Signs of the season.’ Children explored the grounds, identifying signs of Winter and Spring. We noticed that the daffodils were out in bloom, birds were making their nests, leaves were starting to appear on the trees and that the weather was becoming warmer.

We went out into the woods and were given a bird. In pairs, we had to make our own nests using twigs and leaves that we could find. We then identified some British garden birds. We then went off to the greenhouse where we planted our own seeds. These will be coming home this week so that their spring flower can be cared for and planted in the garden at home.

We had a fabulous time and the staff from Harlow Carr have emailed school to comment on the children’s fantastic seasonal knowledge! Well done Year 2!
