Tranmere Park Primary School

Oracy

At Tranmere Park Primary School, the children are given many opportunities to extend and develop their Oracy skills. Through a well planned curriculum, the children are explicitly taught key Oracy skills and these are developed in a variety of ways. Through classroom debates, presentations, performance poetry and role play, children are given purposeful experiences in which to communicate effectively, listen with understanding and be enthusiastic learners.

In addition to the requirements of the National Curriculum, we understand that the education of our pupils cannot simply be restricted to the teaching of academic subjects. Our school wishes to offer a range of diverse and engaging enrichment activities to engage ALL pupils with their learning.

Some of these activities include:

-Class assemblies

-Parent drop-ins (where children are given the opportunity to share their work with their parents)

-Christmas performances

-Performance assemblies

-Y6 productions

-School Councils

-School Trips/Visitors/Residential visits

Class Assemblies

Throughout the academic year, each class has the opportunity to showcase their learning to the school community through a class assembly. Through this, children learn to present in front of an audience and also have the opportunity to be creative; performing songs, PE and drama routines.

School Productions

Throughout the academic year, the children are given many opportunities to perform in front of an audience. Some examples of these are the Christmas productions and Year 6 end of year performance.

Our Nursery and Reception children performing 'A bundle of joy.'

Our KS1 children performing 'Knock, Knock, the nativity.'

Our LKS2 children (Years 3 and 4) performing 'Mr Humbug sees the light.'

Our UKS2 children (Years 5 and 6) performing their Christmas carol concert at St. Oswald's Church, Guiseley.

 Performance Assemblies

We know how very talented our children are and many of them have passions/strengths that they pursue both in and out of school. Some children are talented musicians, song writers, dancers and gymnasts...the list goes on!

To celebrate our children's talents, we have performance assemblies where the children can perform in front of our school community. We are always so impressed with the array of talent shown and it is always a highlight in the Tranmere calendar! Here is a photo from our most recent performance assembly:

School Council

At the beginning of each school year, the children have the opportunity to put themselves forward as a school council representative or a well-being ambassador. The children prepare a short speech for the class and the class vote for the person that they feel would do a brilliant job. Each week, the children attend meetings and then feedback important messages to the class. We are so lucky to have a very active school council and well-being team. Well done everyone!

School Trips/Visits

The children are given many opportunities to extend their learning through school trips and visitors to school. Some of our visits this year have included: a mosque visit, Bradford Industrial Museum, Eden Camp, Murton park (Romans) , Jorvik (Vikings) and more!

These visits offer valuable first-hand experience where children are able to ask and answer questions about their learning, enhance their vocabulary, develop their team work skills and take part in drama activities.

We also like to have lots of visitors into school. This year, Samuel Pepys visited school to deliver a drama workshop to KS1 and the fire service visited our EYFS children. In KS2 we even had a surgeon show us how to disect a heart!

 Residentials

Residentials offer our children many opportunities to develop their spoken language. Team building tasks enable our children to practise their listening skills, share thoughts and opinions and build on the ideas of others. Our Y6 residential to France, enables the children to practise their French speaking and listening; ordering ice-cream in French and holding simple conversations. Here are some photos from our recent residentials:
