Day 2

In the evening, after a lovely meal, we all went down to the local beach to take part in some beach activities. After a short time the weather changed very quickly and it felt more like Bridlington than Calais!

Day 3

After a early breakfast, we set off the battlefields of the Somme. Traveling through the picturesque countryside, we arrived at the Newfoundland memorial. While walking though some of the trenches, the children gained an understanding of how long the soliders fought at that battle.

Next, we arrived at Thiepval. Here are the names of French and British soliders who passed away during the First World War.
After lunch we visited Wellington Quarry. Here the children travelled through the tunnels finding out about the conditions the soliders lived in and the importance of the tunnels in the battle of Arras.
