LKS2 Kite Making
Over the past two days, our LKS2 pupils became engineers, designers and pilots as they built their very own kites from scratch!
To begin, the children carefully measured wooden dowels to the correct lengths before using a saw to cut them. This required patience, concentration and teamwork to ensure each piece was the right size for the kite frame.
Once the dowels were ready, the pupils assembled the structure by securing the wooden pieces together with string, creating a strong cross frame. They then created their kite sails, attaching them carefully to the frame so the kite would catch the wind.
After the sails were finished, the children added a flying line, making sure everything was tightly secured and ready for launch.
The most exciting part was heading outside to test our creations. In front of Ducklings, the children proudly launched their kites into the air.
The activity was a brilliant way to combine DT skills, teamwork and problem solving and the children loved seeing their hard work literally take off.
