Red Kites Science Non-Newtonian Fluids
As part of our ‘States of Matter’ science topic, we learnt about Non-Newtonian fluids. Non-Newtonian fluids are substances that act like both a liquid and a solid depending on how much force is applied. They become hard when squeezed or hit, but flow when released. Some examples are ketchup, toothpaste, slime and goop, aka oobleck, which we made from cornflour and water (and a little bit of food colouring).
Everyone had a lot of fun poking it, running their fingers through it and trying to make it into a ball.
Make it by mixing 1 and a half cups of cornflour with 1 cup of water. It can get a bit messy. You have been warned!
