Remembrance Day In Eagles Class

The children in Eagles class have been learning about Remembrance Day. They have learnt that WW1 began a long time before they were born. It began over 100 years ago in 1914 and lasted 4 years, finishing in 1918. The war ended at exactly 11am on 11th November when both sides stopped fighting and called a truce. 

Many millions of soldiers lost their lives in that time, including those from the British Empire. After the war, people remember those who lost their lives every year on November 11th. This is called Remembrance Day. 

People often wear poppies to commemorate those who lost their lives. After the war, poppies grew on the battlefields so they have come to serve as a symbol of remembrance. 

The children enjoyed creating their own poppy using paper plates. We will remember them.
