Structures in DT
As part of our work on structures this half term, the children have been looking at a range of towers and structures from around the world. They worked in groups to discuss 'what makes these structures stable?'
Working in teams, the children came up with some fantastic ideas. They discussed the use of strong building materials and strong foundations. They also discussed how many towers have a wider base whilst the top of the tower is much narrower. They also came discussed how triangles are often used to strengthen structures and how each structure needs a strong and stable 'core.'
The children really impressed us with their oracy skills - they brought others into their discussions and worked hard to make sure that everyone's voice was heard. Great work Skylarks!
Next week, we will be designing our own towers and look forward to taking our learning forward to help us with our designs.
