On Friday, the Doves studied the male and female structures of flowering plants. We dissected a Lily and identified the pistil (stigma, style and ovary), the stamen (anther and filament), the sepals and the petals. One or two groups also thought that they had identified an egg (ovule) in the ovaries.

We have had an interesting few weeks designing and making our pencil cases and now they are finished! We have experimented with running stitch, back stitch, whip stitch, blanket stitch and sewing on a button, however, threading the needle was probably the most difficult of all! The children from both classes have had a lovely time playing together as part of Mental Health Week. The Year 6s were supposed to be the leaders but we are not sure who was leading who!

This afternoon, we have created a scale model of the solar system. Mercury was a peppercorn, Jupiter was a watermelon and we learnt that Neptune (lime) was a long LONG way from our sun.

The children have outdone themselves this Tranmere Christmas; the table decorations, the dancing and the festive spirit on show were so great that we wanted to share. (Don’t panic 5/6; we’ve kept the dancing between us!)
