In maths we will be working on rapid mental calculations – particularly addition and subtraction – and have identified this as an area where we need some practice as a class. One tool that we use in school is ‘Quickulations’ to practice these. You can use the link below to access this and we would encourage you to use this – along with Times Tables Rockstars – to practice at home whenever you have some spare time.

Children in Year 4 and above should be able to complete addition and subtraction at the ‘medium’ difficulty easily at the default speed by the end of the year. As accuracy is more crucial than speed, we would suggest starting slower and speeding up as time goes on and confidence increases. Being able to perform these calculations quickly and accurately will enable all children in the class to make faster and easier progress in maths this year.
