Homework
Your child will bring their homework home every Monday and should return it the following Monday. This will usually alternate between maths and English/grammar (SPAG). Homework may be used to support other areas of the curriculum too. We politely request that parents mark the work with their child so that any misconceptions can be addressed when returned to school. If they are struggling with any aspects please just write a note on the homework.
Spellings
Spellings will be tested each week on Monday and the new list will be given out following the weekly test. A spelling book will also be sent home with the spellings in.

Saturday 11 October 2025 Skylarks use pastels to create their own art work in the style of Alfred Sisley As part of our topic work, we have been learning about the artist Alfred Sisley. He was a French born artist who often used muted tones and rough strokes in his work. He also liked to create images of the coast and as our topic is all about holidays, we decided to use the pastel techniques that we have learnt and create our own images of Finley, Whiteby and Saltburn-by-the-sea in his style.

Wednesday 8 October 2025 Science in Skylarks - Welly Walk In science, Skylarks went on a leaf hunt around the school grounds to explore and identify different types of plants and leaves. Using our classroom learning, we observed the shapes, sizes, and colours of leaves to help us recognise a variety of tree species. Along the way, we also looked closely at different plants, identifying their key parts such as roots, stems, stalk, petals, trunk, branches, bark and leaves. We really enjoyed being able to apply our science knowledge to the real world and learn more about the nature around us.

Wednesday 8 October 2025 Counting in 3s In our practical maths lesson, Year 2 practised counting in 3s, both forwards and backwards. We sang songs to help us to remember the pattern and we played games that challenged us to count out loud. We then used images of Numicon that represented threes to support us in visualising the sequences before writing them out forwards and backwards. We will continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s over the year.

Tuesday 7 October 2025 Scrambled Sentences in Skylarks In writing, our lessons are focused around the story of Billy’s Bucket. Today, we revisited capital letters and full stops and focused on ensuring that a sentence makes sense. We fixed some examples of muddled sentences altogether before the children had a go in small groups. By the end of the lesson, we all understood that a sentence needs a capital letter, full stop and HAS to make sense! Skylarks have now promised that they will not forget capital letters and full stops in their writing.😁

Monday 12 May 2025 KS1 Nurses Day International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on the 12th May. This is also the day that Florence Nightingale was born in 1820. To celebrate the amazing work the NHS and our nurses do, KS1 took part in many activities throughout the day. We learnt how to make an emergency call and the information we need to give over the phone. We talked about how accidents are different from an emergency and what the differnt emergency services are. In our next activity, we looked at minor bleeding and how we can bandage. We also looked at a first aid kit and what each equipment is for. Our teddies has fun being bandaged and we also pretended to take their temperature and heart beat. We made our own hospitals from wooden bricks, Duplo and Lego and had fun in our Tranmere hospital. We had a lovely day!
