Headteacher’s Blog 9/1/15

Happy New Year to you all! It’s been a very productive week in school – the children have arrived back to school refreshed from their festive break and have been working hard.

Our last post to the website before Christmas of our ‘Carols around the Christmas Tree’ event was our most popular post ever which was pleasing – everyone I’ve spoken to though, has commented that Mr Beech appeared to be enjoying himself just a little TOO much!

It’s been a great week from my perspective – pleasingly free of meetings for a change which has meant I’ve been able to cross lots of things off my ‘to do’ list! I’ve updated various school self evaluation documents which I have shared with Governors, checked which school policies needed updating and re-issued all the teacher’s job descriptions and salary information. Phew. I also met with Parent Forum on Tuesday – the minutes are attached to the Tranmere Times tonight.

I did have one meeting to go to – the Aireborough Family of Schools half termly meeting which is always useful – the headteachers in attendance discussed the new changes to assessment in schools expected by the Government and decided to work together to come up with a common approach. The ALP Trust schools also talked about how we could try to save some money on our Human Resources service by buying the service together – economies of scale.

We also held a special ‘Democracy’ assembly in school – with the General Election coming up, we thought it would be a good time to inform the children about how our MPs are elected and who the main political parties are. The children were (surprisingly!) interested in the subject and some of our Y5/6 children have been working on their own mainfestos – we were really impressed with their knowledge of current affairs.

Mr Joynson has been really busy with sporting events this week, athletics (we came 3rd!), Y4 football and cross country.

Finally, we held the last of our Open Days for prospective parents yesterday – any parents needing a Reception place for September for a younger sibling, please remember that you also need to fill in a school preference form. Mrs Sanderson will be happy to advise you if you’re not sure what you need to do!
